The interim National Commissioner for Defence and Veteran Suicide Prevention, Dr Bernadette Boss CSC has been travelling across Australia, having round table discussions to hear from community groups about the issues impacting mental health and suicidality of serving and ex-serving Australian Defence Force members.

Having heard the views of many community groups, Dr Boss met with representatives from the Department of Veterans' Affairs and Department of Defence at round tables, to hear their views about the key issues.

We would like to take this opportunity to thank all community groups and individuals who have engaged in the round table discussions and shared compelling stories and important insights about defence and veteran suicide. These important conversations will strongly contribute to the interim National Commissioner’s Independent Review of Past Defence and Veteran Suicides.

The interim National Commissioner remains committed to listening to the stories of families and other individuals affected by suicide in a supportive and trauma informed way. The insights provided by veterans and their families will continue to form an invaluable component of the interim National Commissioner’s work. We encourage individuals looking to participate in round table discussions or one-on-one meetings to contact the Office of the National Commissioner if you would like more information and to register their interest – everyone should be heard.
